We’re Bringing back Secretaries/Admin Assistants

I read an article in Bloomberg Business Week titled, “Where have all the secretaries gone?”. The article was interesting because it stated what an Office Assistant’s duties and pay was in the past and what it is now. It seems that companies are downsizing and the assistants are the ones that are losing their job, or shall I say “getting laid off”. In return, that leaves the big ‘Dawgs’ fending for themselves; adding paper into the copier and even booking their own flights.
One may say, well what’s wrong with top executives checking their own emails and scheduling their own appointments and meetings? I say there’s a lot wrong with that. Having an assistant takes care of the little tasks so that the bigger tasks get the attention that it needs, and that is the main ingredient for a more productive, successful establishment. Generally speaking, making copies, answering phone calls and managing schedules should be delegated to the lower cost employees.
Another way that companies are cutting the cost in businesses is delegating multiple responsibilities to one person. Having one person taking care of 3-4 executives will leave an assistant a bit overwhelmed. The issue associated with that is, the compensation remains at the median amount, all while the assistant is doing what they have to do for their boss and livelihood.
I understand the overhead has to be managed and at a reasonable rate, especially being that the economy is at a steady decline, and that’s where Alliance comes in at. We’re contractors that perform the same duties as an in-house office assistant, just without the added costs. We provide our own equipment and facilities. You will never have the worry of providing benefits or paying taxes for your assistant. You get the benefit of choosing if you need someone for a one-time project, or need someone on a regular basis. No job is too big or too small for us and you get quality work completed that will free up your time to do what’s needed to be done the most, and that’s growing your business.
Delegation is not a bad word and if used properly, you will see how beneficial it can be for you. Office Assistants are disappearing from the workplace, but it’s time to bring them back in a non-traditional manner. Contact Alliance Administrative Consultants to see how our professionalism, skill-set and dedication can benefit you. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
